Sean Reed, Founder & Executive Director

Sean Reed is the Founder and Executive Director of the Clean Energy Coalition. Prior to his work as Executive Director of CEC, Sean worked as a Program Developer and Energy Analyst for the City of Ann Arbor's Energy Office and the joint City of Ann Arbor/Washtenaw County Community Development Department. Sean has also worked for WARM Training Center (Detroit, MI) as a Program Manager, Grandmont Rosedale Development Corporation (Detroit, MI) as a Housing Manager, Olkonorei Intergrated Pastoralist Survival Program (Terrat, Tanzania) as a Photovoltaic Systems Installer, and the Japanese Ministry of Education (Imadate, Japan) as a teacher.

Sean has presented on the topic of energy efficiency at numerous statewide and regional conferences and is on the faculty of Washtenaw Community College, Macomb Community College, and Schoolcraft College in Livonia.

Sean has performed energy audits on over 300,000 square feet of residential space and has managed over 14 federal, state, and foundation grants for projects totaling over $2.2 million.

Born in the small African country of Malawi, Sean has traveled and worked widely, having spent five years living abroad in Africa, Asia, and Europe and traveling to more than 50 countries by the time he was 30.

Sean possesses a Bachelors degree (BA) from Muhlenberg College in Allentown, Pennsylvania and Masters degrees from the University of Michigan in Social Work (MSW) and Urban Planning (MUP), as well as Certificates as a Housing Rehabilitation Specialist and Home Energy Rater.
 
 

 


Robyn Skodzinsky, Project Manager

Robyn Skodzinsky is a Project Manager for the Clean Energy Coalition. Prior to her work as Project Manager, Robyn worked for two years as an AmeriCorps member with SOS Community Services in Ypsilanti, MI. Robyn also worked for six years with the Ginsberg Center for Community Service and Learning where she managed the transportation program and subscriptions for the Michigan Journal of Community Service Learning. She is also a former President of the Inter Co-operative Council at the University of Michigan, a member cooperative with 18 group houses, one apartment house, and an annual budget of $1.7 million.

Robyn possesses a Bachelors degree (BS) in Public Administration and Urban Planning (summa cum laude) from Eastern Michigan University and a Master of Public Administration (MPA, summa cum laude) with a concentration in Nonprofit Management from Eastern Michigan University.


 

Greg Vendena, Project Manager

Greg Vendena is a Project Manager for the Clean Energy Coalition. Prior to his work as Project Manager, Greg worked as a Designer and Project Manager for co-lab studio in Detroit, for Crossings Architecture in Ferndale, MI, and for Cheng Design and Construction in Berkeley, CA. Greg has also worked as an Adjunct Professor of Architecture for the University of Michigan, Lawrence Technical University, and the University of Detroit – Mercy.

Greg is a co-founder and board member of co-lab creative, an educational organization based in Detroit and is a co-founder and co-organizer for o2 Michigan, a local chapter for international ecological design work.

Greg possesses a Bachelors degree (BS) from Arizona State University, a Bachelors degree (BFA) from California College of Arts and Crafts, and a Master of Architecture from Cranbrook Academy of Art (with distinction). He is also a LEED Accredited Professional and a Charrette Facilitator for the Green Communities affordable housing program of the Enterprise Foundation.


 

Chris Petit, Project Manager

Chris Petit is a Project Manager for the Clean Energy Coalition. Prior to his work as Project Manager, Chris worked as a Research Assistant for the Center for Sustainable Building Research at the University of Minnesota, as an Environmental Studies Educational Associate at Carleton College, and as a Sustainable Design Researcher at Carleton College.

As an officer for the University of Minnesota's Greenlight program, he was a charrette facilitator for community revitalization projects within Minnesota. Chris has also worked as a Harvard Forest Research Fellow for Harvard University, a Howard Hughes Research Fellow for Carleton College, and Research Assistant for the University of New Orleans.

Chris possesses a Bachelors degree (BA) in Biology (cum laude) from Carleton College and a Masters of Science in Architecture (Sustainable Design) from the University of Minnesota.


 

Deb Heed, Project Manager

Deb Heed is a Project Manager for the Clean Energy Coalition. Prior to her work as Project Manager, Deb helped launch Custom Transit Airport Shuttle, a family-owned and operated business based in Ann Arbor, MI. After spending several years in Chicago purchasing TV and radio advertising for major movie studios, she was named the Director of Marketing for Nederlander Organization’s Chicago office. While there, she oversaw all advertising, promotions, and publicity for concert seasons at Poplar Creek, Alpine Valley Music Theatres, and Shubert Theatre.

Deb possesses a Bachelor’s degree (BA) from University of Michigan. She also achieved her certification as a personal and professional coach from the Coaches Training Institute in San Rafael, CA.


 

Christina Snyder, Project Manager

Christina Snyder is a Building Technical Services Project Manager for Clean Energy Coalition, focusing on residential and commercial energy audits, municipal government energy consulting, and community energy program development and management. Prior to her work as Project Manager, Christina was a Principal at Equilibrium Energy Spaces in Manchester, MI. A registered architect and a licensed residential builder, Christina has over 23 years of architectural experience and 14 years experience in environmentally sensitive and alternative energy system design.

In 2008, Christina became Michigan’s first Certified Passive House Consultant, the highest building energy efficiency standard in the world. She has developed her own methodologies for providing Solar Site Assessments combined with 3D computer models to hold down the costs of incorporating renewable energy systems. Christina has lectured and taught widely for nearly a decade, including work as a Zero Energy Instructor to Lawrence Technical University’s 2007 Solar Decathlon Team. She has several publications, including three co-authored chapters in Creating a Sustainable Future: Living in Harmony with the Earth.

She possesses a Bachelor of Architecture from the University of Cincinnati and completed a program of study at the DIS School of Architecture in Denmark. She also has completed the first half of her Permaculture Designer’s certification, and incorporates those principles into her site designs.


 

Joshua Brugeman, Project Manager

Joshua Brugeman is a LEED certified Building Technical Services Project Manager for Clean Energy Coalition, focusing on residential and commercial energy audits, municipal government energy consulting, and community energy program development and management. Prior to his work as Project Manager, Joshua was the Director for Project Green, a division of J.S. Vig Construction in Ann Arbor, MI. Throughout his career, Joshua has worked extensively in marketing, business development, and sustainable building practices.

Joshua earned his Bachelor's degree and Master of Urban Planning degree from the University of Michigan. Concurrently with his master's degree, he also earned a certificate of Real Estate Development from U of M. An Eagle Scout and triathlete, Joshua spends his free time travelling and renovating his home.


 

Nick Helmholdt, Project Manager

Nick Helmholdt is a Building Technical Services Project Manager for Clean Energy Coalition, focusing on residential energy audits, municipal government energy consulting, and community energy program development and management. Prior to his work as Project Manager, Nick worked as a research and teaching assistant at Cornell University, as a student assistant for the Michigan Energy Office, and as an AmeriCorps VISTA member for Habitat for Humanity of Ingham County, Michigan. Nick has developed energy efficiency and renewable energy projects in both urban and rural settings.

Nick holds a Master of Science in Applied Research in Human Environment Design from Cornell University. While studying for his Bachelors degree in Urban and Regional Planning from Michigan State University, Nick studied urban redevelopment in Germany and Austria. An Eagle Scout, Nick received numerous awards and distinctions while attaining his undergraduate and graduate degrees.


 

Bonnie Bona, Project Manager

Bonnie Bona is a Project Manager for the Clean Energy Coalition. Prior to her work as Project Manager, Bonnie worked as a Consultant and Energy Auditor throughout Ann Arbor, and as an Architect for Bona & Kolb Architects & Designers and Frederick H. Hermann Associates Architects.

Bonnie is a current member and past Chair of the Ann Arbor City Planning Commission and served as Chair of the University of Michigan Museum of Art (UMMA) Friends Board during the design of their new museum and temporary relocation of exhibitions. Through these roles and other volunteer activites with the City of Ann Arbor, Bonnie has sponsored several policy initiatives and resolutions in support of more walkable land use regulations.

Bonnie possesses a Bachelor of Science in Architectural Studies from the University of Illinois - Champaign-Urbana and a Master of Architecture from the University of Michigan. Bonnie is a Registered Architect and a LEED Accredited Professional.


 

Lisa Warshaw, Project Manager

Lisa Warshaw is a Project Manager for the Clean Energy Coalition. Prior to her work as Project Manager, Lisa was the Deputy Communications Director at the Coalition for Clean Air in Los Angeles, California. Prior to joining CEC, Lisa also served as a Communications and Public Relations Consultant for Relief International, was a World Partners Fellow on behalf of American Jewish World Service in Chiang Mai, Thailand, and worked as a journalist in San Jose, Costa Rica. Throughout her career, Lisa has acquired extensive domestic and international experience working with nonprofit organizations with a focus on sustainable development.

Lisa possesses a Bachelor of Arts in International Studies (Phi Beta Kappa) from the University of Oregon with semesters completed at the Universidad de Sevilla in Sevilla, Spain. A California native, Lisa is fluent in Spanish, with a strong knowledge in multiple other languages - and has a deep passion for travel.


 

Matt Sandstrom, Project Manager

Matt Sandstrom is a Project Manager for Clean Energy Coalition, focusing on the Michigan Green Fleets program and Detroit Area Clean Cities. Prior to his work as Project Manager, Matt was both a Zone and Fleet Zone Manager for Ford Motor Company. At Ford, Matt was responsible for more than $36 million in parts sales to fleets and dealers throughout Northern California and the Pacific Northwest. While at Ford, Matt received numerous distinctions for excellence in dealer and fleet satisfaction. After his tenure at Ford, Matt administered a U.S. Department of Labor program at the County of San Mateo, California, assisting HR managers with outplacement strategies.

Matt holds a Master of Science in Transportation Management from The Mineta Transportation Institute at San Jose State University and a Bachelor of Business Administration from Cleveland State University.


 

Jenny Oorbeck, Project Manager

Jenny Oorbeck is a Project Manager for Clean Energy Coalition, where she works to create more energy efficient communities throughout the State of Michigan. Throughout her career, Jenny has worked tirelessly to develop and implement climate change, energy efficiency and waste reduction policies and programs that provide substantial financial savings to both the public and private sector.

Prior to joining the CEC, Jenny served as the Environmental Manager for the City of Richmond, California, leading the city’s environmental division. In this position, she developed and directed the city’s climate change, energy efficiency, Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant (EECBG), green building, and waste diversion programs. Under her direction, Richmond implemented several innovative environmental policies and programs including joining the Urban Environmental Accords, establishing ambitious greenhouse gas emissions reduction goals, implementing EECBG projects that provide jobs for local graduates of Richmond’s green job training program, and passing a food ware ordinance eliminating the use of Styrofoam and plastic to-go ware from restaurants within the city, among others. Prior to this position, Jenny worked as both Program Manager and Acting Director for the Central Contra Costa Solid Waste Authority in Walnut Creek, California managing waste diversion programs for five cities.

Jenny holds a Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) in Sociology from Mills College in Oakland, CA and a Master’s degree (M.S.) in Environmental Policy from the University of Michigan’s School of Natural Resources and Environment.


 

Graham Brown, Intern

Graham Brown is an Intern for Clean Energy Coalition. Prior to his internship, Graham worked as a Sustainable Planning Administrator for the Schuster Group in Seattle. A LEED AP professional, Graham is primarily interested in finding ways to bridge gaps between financing, implementation, and operation of energy efficiency retrofit projects and other built-environment performance upgrades. Having worked for non-profits and funders on both sides of the grantwriting table, Graham is inordinately excited by raw data.

Graham is a graduate student at the University of Michigan’s School of Natural Resources and Environment. He received his BS in Engineering from Stanford University.


 

Mike Elchinger, Intern

Mike Elchinger is an Intern for Clean Energy Coalition. Prior to his internship, Mike worked as a Research Analyst for the International Brotherhood of Teamsters in Washington, D.C. His work there included negotiating collective bargaining agreements and conducting financial research. Mike hopes to expand renewable energy projects through innovative financing mechanisms.

Mike is a graduate student at the University of Michigan’s School of Natural Resources and Environment. He holds a BA in Economics and Religious Studies from the University of Virginia.


 

Ryan Flynn, Intern

Ryan Flynn is an Intern for Clean Energy Coalition. Prior to his internship, Ryan worked as a Manager of Sales Operations for Accolo in Larkspur, CA and as a Technician and Crew Leader for the U.S. Geological Survey. Ryan is interested in developing strategies to reduce upfront costs and increase activity in the renewable energy and energy efficiency sectors.

Ryan is a graduate student at the University of Michigan’s School of Natural Resources and Environment. He received his BA in Political Science and Conservation Biology from the University of Wisconsin.


 

Andy Lubershane, Intern

Andy Lubershane is an Intern for Clean Energy Coalition. Prior to his internship, Ryan worked as a market research assistant for Planet Metrics, as a sales and research intern for Ecosynergy, and as a cartoonist for Worldchanging.com, where he honed his ability to communicate complex sustainability ideas using clear, simple language, and illustrations.

Andy is a graduate student at the University of Michigan’s School of Natural Resources and Environment. He received his BA in Government and Political Theory from Wesleyan University and completed a course on Life Cycle Assessment at the Harvard Extension School to measure the energy and carbon intensity of various systems.
